Start the server, and make sure that the operating system starts, if an operating system is installed, or that a 19990305 error code is displayed, indicating that an operating system was not found but the server is otherwise working correctly.

Installing an adapter The following notes describe the types of adapters that the server supports and other information that you must consider when you install an adapter: v Locate the documentation that comes with the adapter and follow those instructions in addition to the instructions in this section. “Using the Setup utility” on page 78. v Boot Selection Menu program The Boot Selection Menu program is part of the IBM System x Server Firmware. Use it to override the startup sequence that is set in the Setup utility and temporarily assign a device to be first in the startup sequence.
IMM settings. Use the ASU program online or out-of-band to modify UEFI settings from the command line without the need to restart the server to access the Setup utility. For information about using this program, see “IBM Advanced Settings Utility program” on page 92.

Also, after you complete a repair or correct an error, clear the system-event log to turn off the system-error LED on the front of the server.

The system board contains a backup copy area for the server firmware. This is a secondary copy of server firmware that you update only during the process of updating IBM System x Server Firmware. If the primary copy of the server firmware becomes damaged, use this backup copy.
When you use the ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD, you do not need setup diskettes. You can use the CD to configure any supported IBM server model. The setup program provides a list of tasks that are required to set up your server model.
