Installing Windows 98
Windows 98 Second Edition comes factory-installed on your HP Notebook. The
following procedure installs a retail version of Windows 98. If you install a retail version
of Windows 98, you'll also need to manually install drivers that support the HP
Notebook.
This section describes how to:
• Prepare for software installation.
• Install Windows 98.
• Install video support.
• Install audio support.
• Install pointing device support.
• Install infrared support.
To prepare for software installation
To install Windows 98, you must have the following:
• HP Notebook with floppy drive and cable, and internal CD-ROM/DVD drive.
• Windows 98 CD-ROM.
• Blank, formatted floppy disk.
• HP Notebook drivers for Windows 98
Location: On the Product Recovery CD in \HP\DRIVERS\W98, or they can be
downloaded from www.hp.com/go/support.
HP recommends that you repartition and format your hard disk before installing retail
Windows 98. Follow the instructions below to repartition your hard disk.
You will need a computer with a working Windows operating system to make a support
utility disk.
1. Insert the Recovery CD in the CD-ROM drive.
2. Insert a blank floppy disk in the A: drive.
