Installing the new piston spacer (shim) on
the ink cartridge holder
Follow these steps to install the new piston spacer (shim) on the ink cartridge holder.
NOTE:
This section is applicable only to level 2 and above operators.
A piston spacer (shim) must be installed on the ink cartridge holder to support the new HP Indigo
ElectroInk Silver cartridge longer nozzle, and ensure functionality.
Installing / replacing an ink cartridge without the spacer (P/N CA341-86500) might be more difficult, and
could also cause ink leaks from the cartridge nozzle.
NOTE:
The spacer needs to be installed in the press (as described below) only if an old type cartridge
holder was replaced with the new type .
The piston spacer (shim) is not necessary for other inks (other than Silver and Premium White),
however, if you use another ink instead of HP Indigo ElectroInk Silver in a station where the shim is
installed, you can leave the shim in place. If you want to use ElectroInk Silver at another station where
the shim is not installed, you need to move the shim there.
The following figure shows the old and new types of cartridge holders: (1) — Old cartridge type, do not
install spacer; (2) — New cartridge type, need to install spacer.
