    Getting Started > Connecting a Power Source Connecting a Power Source You can use either an AC adapter or a rechargeable battery pack for supplying power to your computer. Before using the computer for the first time, you need to connect an AC adapter to your computer. Do not use your computer without the battery pack installed as it may cause the computer to malfunction.

If you do not intend to use your computer for an extended period of time, place the computer into Hibernate mode. See Using Hibernate Mode 27).

Do not use your computer without the battery pack installed as it may cause the computer to malfunction. Installing/Removing the Battery Pack To install the battery pack Turn off the computer and close the LCD screen lid.

Push down the circled area on the battery pack illustrated below until the battery pack clicks into place. Slide the battery LOCK switches outward to secure the battery pack on the computer.

    Certain rechargeable batteries do not meet Sony quality and safety standards. For safety reasons this computer only functions with genuine Sony battery packs designed for this model. If an unauthorized battery pack is installed, the battery will not be charged and the computer will not function.

    Getting Started > Using the Battery Pack Charging the Battery Pack The battery pack supplied with your computer is not fully charged at the time of delivery. To charge the battery pack Install the battery pack. Connect the computer to a power source with the AC adapter. The charge indicator light is on while the battery pack is charging.

    Customizing Your VAIO Computer > Setting the Password Setting the Password In addition to the Windows password, you can use BIOS functions to set two types of passwords to protect your computer: the power-on password and the hard disk password. Once you have set the power-on password, you will be prompted to enter the password after the VAIO logo appears to start your computer.
