    C onsumable eplaCement and leaning nstRuCtions eplaCing the Multiple feeds and misfeeds can be caused by a worn or improperly in- stalled Pad. The life span of the Pad Assembly is approximately 600,000 pages. If NCR or carbonless paper is used the life span of the Pad may be decreased by half. • Make sure there is no paper in the stacker. • Press the ADF Cover Open Button. Note: The cover opens slowly on it’s own. • Move the Pad to the left, than pull it up in order to remove it from the scanner.

Mounting Holes Pins • Close the ADF Cover. • Reset the Pad Counter in the Software Operation Panel.

The Pick Rollers have an approximate life of 600,000 pages. If NCR or carbonless paper is used the life span of the Pick Roll- ers may be decreased by half. • Make sure there is no paper in the stacker. • Press the ADF Cover Open Button. Note: The roller shaft and the hole in the Pick Rollers are keyed and will only slide on in one orientation. • Close the Roller Cover. • Close the ADF Cover. • Reset the Pick Roller Counter in the Software Operation Panel.

Roller Cover Opening • Slide the two Separation Rollers outwards in the direction of the arrows.
  • Page 8 C onsumable eplaCement and leaning nstRuCtions eplaCing the epaRation olleRs Cont • Remove the two Separation Rollers by sliding them inwards and off the shafts (in the direction of the arrow). • Install the Separation Rollers by sliding them on to each shaft, aligning the groove on the roller with the screw on the shaft. Screw Groove • Close the Roller Cover. Roller Cover Note: The Separation Rollers will automatically spring to their Separation proper position. Rollers • Close the ADF Cover. • Reset the Separator Roller Counter in the Software Operation Panel.

The Brake Roller has an approximate life of 600,000 pages. Counter Description Total Page Count(ADF) Pages scanned by the fi-5900C Scanner. Pad Number of pages scanned since the Pad was replaced. Brake Roller Number of pages scanned since the Brake Roller was replaced. Pick Roller Number of pages scanned since the Pick Rollers were replaced. Separator Roller Number of pages scanned since the Separation Rollers were replaced. Note: For the consumable counters to be accurate, they must be reset when the consumables are replaced.

This will allow the user to accurately track the page count of each consumable. • Click the C beside the replaced consumable. leaR utton • At the confirmation screen below, click on the ok b . Use them approximately every 10,000 sheets scanned. They are to be used in between the thorough cleanings of the scanner. Cleaning Protective Sheet Paper • Place the cleaning sheet on the Hopper against the Left Hopper Guide, adhesive side up to clean the Upper Transport Path. These items should be cleaned every 10,000 sheets. More frequent cleaning will be required if scanning paper with a large amount of printing, documents filled out in pencil, or carbonless multipart forms. Note: Proper cleaning of the Pad, Pick Rollers, Brake Roller and Separation Rollers will increase the life of each component. • Open the ADF Cover. • Wipe the rubber parts of the Pad with a lint free cloth moistened with F1 Cleaner or isopropyl alcohol in the direction of the arrows. • Open the Roller Cover. Pad Cover Brake Roller • Remove the Brake Roller by lifting up on the left side first and then removing the right side of the shaft from it’s mounting hole. • Clean the rubber surface of the Brake Roller using a lint free cloth moistened with F1 Cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. • Reinstall the Brake Roller after cleaning. • Close the Pad Cover.

More frequent cleaning will be required if scanning paper with a large amount of printing, documents filled out in pencil, or carbonless multipart forms. Feed Rollers Note: The fi-5900C Scanner has Pinch Rollers nine sets of Pinch and Feed Rollers with two rollers on each shaft. The Pinch Rollers are the upper set of rollers (grey rollers in drawing). Clean sensors will also cut down on paper jamming and false error messages. • Open the ADF Cover. • Clean the whole transport path (stainless steel and glass) using a lint free cloth moistened with F1 Cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. Upper Transport Path • If the transport path contains a large amount of paper dust, use a vacuum cleaner to clean. Lower Transport Path • Clean the Skew Detection Sensors on the lower transport path using a lint free cloth moistened with F1 Cleaner or isopropyl alcohol.
