    This chapter provides basic instructions for installing hardware options in your server. These instructions are intended for users who are experienced with setting up IBM server hardware. If you need more detailed instructions, see the Option Installation Guide on the IBM xSeries Documentation CD.

    You can install only a half-length adapter in slot 5. v The optional IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter can be installed only in PCI slot 5. Use the ribbon cable that comes with the adapter to connect the adapter to the system management connector on the PCI riser card.

Then, remove the microprocessor from the package. b. Remove the protective cover, tape, or label from the surface of the microprocessor socket, if present.

    Chapter 4. Configuring your server The ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD provides software setup tools and installation tools that are specifically designed for your IBM server. Use this CD during the initial installation of the server to configure basic hardware features and to simplify your operating-system installation.

    The adapter comes with a CD containing the ServeRAID Manager program and the ServeRAID Mini-Configuration program, which you can use to configure the IBM ServeRAID controller. For information about using these programs, see the documentation that comes with the ServeRAID adapter.
