Remove the fan/heat sink assembly:

Steps 1 through 4 apply only to models with discrete subsystem memory on the system board.
See steps 5 through 8 apply only to models with UMA subsystem memory on the system board.

Turn the system board upside down, with the expansion port and external monitor port toward you.
2.
Disconnect the fan cable (1) from the system board.
3.
Loosen the six Phillips captive screws (2) that secure the fan/heat sink assembly to the system
board.
